Fitness Trainer Application
For the obese, gyms, aerobic classes, and fitness trainers can be very intimidating. We go to classes where we are expected to move body parts we can't even see. Classes and trainers don't seem to understand the restrictions just our oversized bellys present.
We are looking for fitness trainers with positive experience working with obese men and women (over 100lbs overweight) in helping them include exercise in their weight loss journey.
Some of the downfalls we face with trainers is that most want to focus on muscle building, pilates, and yoga then tell us we need to eat way too many calories and way too much protein to build the new muscle.
Although yoga and pilates are great for toning and balance, they don't help us burn fat. Getting obese men and women to exercise is hard, so the hour or two they are willing to give per day needs to be done in aerobic exercise that will get them to their goals. Our knees are bad, so we can not do jumping jacks or tackle a jump rope, so please don't ask. Although we all watch Jillian and Bob each week working their clients very hard, most of us do not have medics and doctors at our beck and call. Pull too many muscles, cause a shin splint or injure a knee and we won't come back. It is important that the only pain an obese person suffers is from the actual exercise, injuries can cause the most motivated to give up and gain back all the weight lost.
Anerobic exercise doesn't work as well for us because it causes us to justify overeating. It seems to stimulate hunger/appetite. So here at ObeseMe the most important exercise that is advocated is walking within an individual's fat burn zone. We do not buy into the 20 minutes a day three day a week fat burn idea. We have to exercise daily and we have to start slow with little impact.
The database we hope to build will be with fitness instructors around the world that have experience working with obese men and women, ones who understand not just the weight limitations, but the humiliation factor many feel while working out in public.
For water aerobics we are looking for trainers who will work the obese not as if they were elderly and fragile, but as men and women who have to push hard and work within their fat burn zone within the safety of water.
If you feel you are an advocate of the obese and offer training that will help them reach their weight loss goals at their level and needs, then please fill out the following form. If you have obese clients we would love to hear from them as this list will eventually be setup with a client rating system.
